Handbook for the Recently Traveled

Spooky travel guides, ghost tours, and restaurant recommendations.

I grew up road-tripping to Florida, annually. My grandparents lived in St. Petersburg, so my family and I would visit them for a few days and then head to Orlando for a Disney park or two.

Of course I loved seeing my grandparents and going to amusement parks, but what I really fell in love with was the road. Being in control of where we’re going; the ability to turn off the beaten path at any moment… that experience really resonated with me into adulthood.

Today, I would pick a road trip over flying almost anywhere. So, you will notice that where I’ve been and where I’m going will mostly be within driving distance. It’s not that I have an aversion to flying; I just like knowing I can change my mind about my route and destination at any time. I feel the same way about life.

My Favorite Places

New Orleans, LA- Admittedly, I spent the entire time in the French Quarter (most of it on Bourbon St.), but the history and culture I experienced was amazing. I also took a fantastic ghost tour!

San Diego, CA- I lived in San Diego for 6 months when I was 21. I have been back to visit 3 times. It’s SoCal without the pretentiousness of LA.

Charlotte, NC- I live here. I chose Charlotte because I already had friends here. I stayed because I fell in love. Charlotte is a great mix of laid back, southern charm, and bustling “big” city.

Oswego, NY- My home town. This will always be near the top of my list. Oswego might not be a destination city, but it is a part of who I am. I go back at least once a year to visit my family and friends. It’s home and holds a special place in my heart.

Top 3 Bucket List Items

Whale watching in New England – A great mix of terrifying and exhilarating! Hopefully an add-on to a future Boston trip!

Road trip across the US- I want to take a few weeks to do this. Zig-zagging required!

Tracing my ancestry back to England and Ireland and visiting the places my family comes from.

Most Recent Trip

Jay and I went on took a mid-west road trip in April! We visited Louisville, Chicago, and Cincinnati. Surprisingly, Cincy was our favorite stop and we actually can’t wait to go back! (SPOILER: we went back and I have more to share!)
